With the District Line to nature and bliss, only a short ride
A country retreat without having to flee to the countryside
A Downton Abbey setting with better bathrooms and no drama
As flamingos chirp on the wallpaper, slurping Port soothes our karma
‘Tis a Country Manor fit for aspiring princesses and Earls
Meet families, lovebirds, and local noblesse wearing pearls
Dining in the glass-walled loggia, a late Déjeuner Sur L’Herbe
Soaking in the day’s final sunrays, the ambience is superb
‘The air of paradise did fan the house’, ’tis less house than boutique
Forget airports, M5, trains – your oasis is close, calm and chic
Refreshed after a night, I return to the urban pandemonium
The reverie has ended, yet I dream – of marrying, here, in costume.

At a fraction over 300 years old, Cannizaro House is a 4-star boutique hotel in Wimbledon. The hotel – a member of the Mantis Collection of privately owned boutique hotels – has 46 bedrooms, six function rooms, and a 2 AA Rosette award-winning restaurant.
Hosting more than 100 weddings per year, Cannizaro House must be one of the most popular celebratory settings within a tube ride’s distance from central London. With meeting rooms for up to 122 guests, all with natural daylight and many with views overlooking Cannizaro Park, and two larger rooms with direct access to the terraces for receptions and breaks, it’s a perfect setting for events from small and intimate weddings, to civil ceremonies, to birthday parties and business meetings, to a big bash and exclusive hire of the entire hotel.
The terraces are overlooking Cannizaro Park, adjacent to Wimbledon Common, with Royal Wimbledon Golf Course and London Scottish Golf Course minutes away. Horse riding, biking, long walks through the Common, or a little retail therapy in Wimbledon Village are popular pastimes. Short rides away are sights such as the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, and Hampton Court.
Cannizaro House features regularly changing exhibitions of young artists, mostly local and/or students of the Wimbledon School of Art. Each of the bedrooms are decorated with their own signature wallpaper and furnishings (Poetry and the Feast stayed in the “Flamingo Room”).
A crystal carafe with a complimentary, seasonal tipple is offered in each of the rooms. Poetry and the Feast enjoyed a restorative glass – to bridge that challenging time between the post-lunch port and the pre-dinner sherry – before heading downstairs, where guests can enjoy afternoon tea, sunset cocktails on the terrace, or a nightcap at the bar. The restaurant serves modern european cooking with an emphasis on British organic suppliers, with set menus starting from £24.50 for two courses.
