MR FOGG’S RESIDENCE: Back open with a cornucopia of cocktails until 2:01am and mannequins maintaining drinkers’ distance

If you’re looking for a bit of escapism in the city with an adventurous twist, make your way to Mr Fogg’s Residence in the heart of Mayfair.

This eclectic and tucked away bar which notably features a hot air balloon and a penny-farthing hanging above the bar, has reopened much to our delight following closure due to the darned corona and it has a number of safety measures in place so you can concentrate on delicious drinks instead of worrying about hygiene.

Firstly, temperature checks are performed on arrival with a little gun. Apparently I was ‘hot’ while my drinking companion was ‘cool’.

Secondly, the bar, based around the home of Victorian traveller Phileas Fogg, has installed a number of themed mannequins dressed in 19th-century garb so that guests can maintain a good distance.

Other things we noticed on our visit was a sign in the washrooms instructing us to wash our hands for 20 seconds or to sing ring-a-ring a roses to ensure we didn’t skimp on rinsing.

The menus, which are styled after a Victorian newspaper, are individually printed so you can take one home as a souvenir copy.

We highly recommend booking as when we visited on a Friday night it was full until closing at 2:01am and many people were being turned away at the door.

A couple of the delicacies on the menu we recommend include the Stamford’s Signature – a blend of pomegranate, Star of Bombay gin, berry liqueur, lychee, fresh lemon juice and Moet & Chandon champagne – and the Spicy Rupee – a mix of vanilla-infused Smirnoff Black No 55 vodka, elderflower cordial, fresh lime juice, honey syrup and chilli flakes.

If you’re more into classics, don’t hesitate to ask the friendly Mr Fogg’s team for your favourite tipple. They make a spiffing martini and they’re always up for adding an exotic twist.

Mr Fogg’s Residence is one of six bars in the Mr Fogg’s portfolio run by the Inception Group.

The other venues now open include Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals, Mr Fogg’s Tavern and Mrs Fogg’s Dockside Drinkery & Distillery.

Mr Fogg’s Gin Parlour will open Thursday 3rd September, while Mr Fogg’s Society of Exploration will start welcoming guests again Thursday 8th October.

Mr Fogg’s Residence is located at: 15 Bruton Lane, Mayfair, London, W1J 6JD
