Roka Aldwych is a favourite and we are always super excited to hear what they are up to. The latest news is that they have recently launched their Han Setto Sunday Brunch menu. Billed as the perfect way to relax on Sunday, the menu includes a seasonal Bellini on arrival, an extensive selection of ROKA dishes and wine throughout, for £55. The menu is also be available at £39, without wines.
‘Han’, a derivative of the Japanese word ‘gohan’, means ‘cooked rice’ or ‘meal’ and ‘setto’ refers to set menu. The Han Setto Brunch menu, is exclusively available at Roka Aldwych and is designed as an alternative for Londoners to the conventional Sunday brunch.
Hungover after a heavy night we saw this is the perfect opportunity to while away a few hours feeling sorry for ourselves whilst indulging in delicious ‘healthy’ food to ease away our pain.
Staying true to the ROKA concept, dishes are designed to share. To start, a selection of dishes are brought to the table; including a delicious mix of hot and cold delights. Our highlights included the sake to avocado maki, 3 sashimi selection, horenso no gama ae salada, and the tempura no moriawase (not that the rest weren’t great these were just exceptional).
We then chose our second course from the robata grill or main kitchen; picking regular favourites such as tai no miso-yaki (sea bream fillet, ryotei miso and red onion), kobuta no ribs yawaraka nikomiyaki (glazed baby back ribs with cashew nuts) and the yaki yasai moriawase (selection of vegetables from the robata grill), all of which were exquisite – special shout out to the ribs they were even better than we remembered.
Final course was an impressive ROKA dessert platter; a meticulous arrangement of exotic fruits, sorbets and ROKA classics – yum!
We went a little off piste with our drink choices, choosing prosecco and sake throughout our meal after our welcome Bellini, instead of the wines option. We also threw in a few refreshing cleansers early on of strawberry furimasu with strawberry, lychee, yakult & lime and a ginger ninja as our attempt to hydrate before we dehydrate.
The food at ROKA is always phenomenon and the brunch is no exception – simply divine!
Han Setto Sunday Brunch will be available from 12 noon until 8pm, priced at £39 per person, with Bellini on arrival; or at £55 per person and will also include red & white wine throughout your meal.
