Read more →Festivals are traditionally centred around the big field with the main stage with people travelling from this tent to that tent. This festival is centred around a lake. Every year there's a mini stage in the middle, accessible only by punt or free-to-borrow row-boat and modelled on something entertaining, before blowing it up on the Saturday. This year, the theme being superstition, the something entertaining took the form of a ship being eaten (or possibly mated with) by a kraken.
Read more →I really should have not have been as excited as I was on my way to Standon Calling this year. A Standon virgin myself, I was spending the weekend with a group of dedicated regulars. Pre-warned by the named group that this year's line-up was blatantly robbed by competitors at Eastern Electrics, I should have been less enthusiastic and more confused as to why I got the short end of the straw and ended up on the train en route to Standon rather than Greenwich.
