Hudson’s House Bloomsbury address, inside the St Giles Hotel, sets it apart, but not quite aloof, from boho Soho and Theatreland on the West End’s edges – a fitting home for the 21st century Bloomsbury hipsters.
Hudson’s House is unselfconsciously hip (not trendy); arty (not farty): a comfortably louche, eclectic collage of old and new, of natural and stained wood with leather slouchery that’s all shot through with devilish detail and art deco shards that smack of thirties Manhattan.
All of which makes this a place to get louche and lounge around in the cloistered booths or on the street terrace in leather settees while knocking back classic cocktails with a 21st century kick like the Caipirinha, French 75 or the Breakfast Martini. Meanwhile, from a good old fashioned Welsh Rarebit to cheese and meat platters; from great slabs of steak to pan-fried hake, the menu’s boisterously British… laid-back easy eating with a tasty continental tang for late-night lounge lizards and ladies who lunch alike.
With 80 covers, daytimes cater for brunches, business lunches and family groups while evenings will evolve from dinner service to late night private gatherings.
Nicholas Cash owner of Hudson’s House and also visionary Brickhouse Supper Club (Shoreditch) which has since re-launched as L!FE Shoreditch, home of hot yoga studios, organic food and eclectic music – comments, “We wanted to bring something unique and fresh to Bloomsbury – at Hudson’s House you’ll find inspiring drinks, fine food and the space to appreciate great company. A friendly and warm ambiance that will have you coming back for more”.
