If you were to think of Hoxton Square as a giant clock face, there are certain hours within its circumference, which you should give more than just a moments worth of your time.
Checking-in at 6 o’clock you’ve got Happiness Forgets, at 12 you’ve got Dolls House and over at 8ish you’ve got 16 Hoxton Square – a place somewhat over looked .
This shadow-hanging-corner-hugger, had been nonchalantly sloping the perimeter of Hoxton Square going most undetected, until now. The space has been transformed into Fever Tree’s Ultimate G&T bar (panic now) which is only open for a few more weeks.
With a canoodel prompting date spot tree-house upstairs, an airy restaurant space downstairs and a large terrace for sipping in the sunshine, the venue is ticking some key boxes.
Skewed slightly more towards moustaches, rather than bicycles, the enlightening joint offers a 6 course tasting menu (only on Tuesday mind you).
The good chaps at Fever Tree who know what to put in a glass have teamed up with Check On (experienced plate fillers) with the share belief and promise to only ever source and serve quality ingredients.
The course were inspired by the natural flavours and botanicals that Fever Tree uses, such as ginger, lemon thyme, rosemary, elderflower and orange, with each course having a cloud 9 status G&T pairing (that is if you could keep up the pace).
Sailing in for the first course was salt age topside of beef tartar served in chicory leaf boats with ginger, roasted garlic, black sesame seeds and coriander.
Course number 2 was marked down as ‘Onion’ which could have potentially have been a bland or obscure dish came golden roasted and sitting in a flavoursome consommé with buoyant chunks of rosemary gnocchi and garnished with twee rosemary flowers.
The following courses cleverly used meaty flavours such as Goosenargh chicken to link to herbal flavours i.e. Lemon Thyme, which then echoed the taste notes of the gin – like playing Chinese whispers with your taste buds.
Every days a school day – I must remind myself – and this was no exception. Not only was the location right under my nose, the G&T pairing were and education, one that I will be happy to revise again soon.
