This Summer Vauxhall will be graced with Dram & Smoke – a weekend pop-up showcasing the best of Scottish produce with a working steelyard as a backdrop! Think smoking venison, fresh fish, great beer and gin and whisky cocktails in a fun environment and you get the main idea behind Edinburgh boys Nick Fulton and Paul Ross’ summer venture.
Upon arrival guests are treated to a welcome cocktail before sitting down to a six-course tasting menu. The star of which is the smoking venison haunch with a light pearl barley salad and bramble dressing. Other Scottish classics include haggis bon bons, potted smoked mackerel, and a creamy Cullen Skink soup shooter. The oft-maligned deep-fried Mars Bar even gets a mention when dessert rolls around – all served alongside an Innes & Gunn Oak-aged beer.
There will be a small but pique gin list courtesy of Pickering, newcomers to the Scottish Gin market, and an array of whisky cocktails behind the bar – alongside an array of choice single malts, naturally.
But it’s not just the ‘scranx’ and ‘bevvy’ that will entice guests – the venue itself is a unique part of this night out. Behind a clandestine doorway a short distance from Vauxhall Underground, the rough and ready, semi-outdoor backdrop of the Dram & Smoke steelyard lends itself perfectly to a party atmosphere on the weekend while it’s a functioning steelyard during the week.
We are intrigued..
