Disrepute or D.R.P as it’s refereed to by those in the know is a recently opened, hidden gem, we discovered nestled within a 100–seater basement between Carnaby Street and Beak Street and one that we are excited to share our thoughts on. Formally the Kingly Club, it is the latest collaboration from the teams behind Sovereign Loss (Chris Dennis and Joe St Clair-Ford) and the Barrio family of bars (Ferdie Ahmed and Ani Kyriacou) and takes its inspiration from Sixties haunt, ‘The Pinstripe Club’, and its colourful history of scandal and infamy.
The Sixties was a decade renowned for its hedonism, artistic expression and optimism, where the social elite, celebrity and political classes rubbed shoulders with dancing girls, fashionistas and musicians. Great drinkers, from the celebrated to the discredited, fueled by a jazz soundtrack, would whittle the night away in the infamous Soho basements of the day. Disrepute is playing its part to reconnect party-goers with their inner deboucherous side and with their expertly curated drinks menu they may just achieve that. They have a vast collection of spirits for cocktails as well as an extensive wine list. The vintage prosecco was a winner for us as was the J.A. cocktail which was a delicious (Beefeater) gin and fortified english apple concoction and the P.G.J.R a heady combination of Plantation rum, Teapot bitters, crème de cassis, Campari, ginger ale, Smith & Cross rum oat.
Disrepute is an intimate space and their decor is beautiful – velvet booths and chairs, stylish mirrors adorning wood–panelled walls and vaulted ceilings give this small but luxurious bar a speakeasy, secretive vibe.
D.R.P. prides itself as an unconventional members’ bar – applications are welcome from people of all backgrounds and persuasions, especially from those who share in its vision of luxurious libations and late- night civilised conversations. Membership will bring some great benefits and privileges but non-members are also welcome to book a table subject to availability.
