The British Fashion Council and eBay last week announced the launch of an exciting new initiative, BFC Contemporary. In an attempt to sate an increasing global demand for worldwide, ready-to-wear clothing and accessories and to encourage new British talent, the BFC will be leading a mentorship programme for a group of exciting British fashion designers.
The 2014 BFC Contemporary recipients are Alexis Barrell, Georgia Hardinge, Paper London, Prism and Zoë Jordan, and were chosen for both their commercial potential and creative originality in the contemporary fashion world.
To celebrate September’s fast-approaching London Fashion Week , each designer involved in the project will create a limited edition item to reflect their signature aesthetic. These items will be available to buy through the BFC Contemporary shop (located within the brand new Fashion Collective destination on eBay).
CEO of the British Fashion Council, Caroline Rush, commented: “We are delighted to support and help accelerate the growth of these very viable fashion businesses. Each of the inaugural BFC Contemporary designers possess incredible creativity and strong brand concepts. With invaluable support from eBay, these designers mark a new wave in British contemporary design, the rise of which we aim to fuel with this new initiative.”
Good news for budding designers out there: official applications will be open to all British fashion designers looking for BFC Contemporary support in 2015.
