Asparagasm suggests an orgasm of the green kind and this is certainly what was in store for us at this months event, Green Magic! A 5-course vegan & gluten-free dining experience by chef Fredrik Bolin*, Head Chef at Disappearing Dining Club. This was my second event organised by my new obsession, Asparagasm, located in a pop-up studio in the depths of dalston with a bright full moon, cozy tables with bird cages, candles and scattered with treats of Dark Chocolate Tiffin from Lazydayfoods and vitamins from Smart Nutrition Direct.
When I arrived I was welcomed by a champagne & Pernod Absinthe fizz and seated with a rather fabulous array of friendly attendees. I was solo on this venture but far from uncomfortable as everyone introduced themselves and welcomed me! Kate, aka Miss Asparagasm was dressed in a dazzling green silk dress and many others had adopted a color theme. There is definitely a passionate vibe at these events, happy chi and all that jazz!
We started with a shot of Cream of Jerusalem Artichoke drizzled with Wild Mushroom Oil and went on to be dazzled by a rather erotic looking creation defined as Tomato, Black Bean & Corn Cerviche with Lime & Cucumber Jelly & Crispy Tortilla. It was so interesting to see peoples reactions at how tasty the dishes were, total satisfaction! The welcome drink had vanished at this point at which point I researched the drinks menu, separated into cocktail sections names Bad Girls and Good Boys. There was also a mixture if vegan-method lager, wine and champagne!
The main dish was certainly the winner, Smoked Ratatouille Provençale served with roasted Red Pepper Polenta and a salad of rainbow greens. Crunchy hot and cold mix with some serious visual flirtation! You don’t have to be vegan to go to a vegan event! After this hearty throb of a dish we were given a shot of a potent Raspberry & Chilli Granita to kickstart our taste buds before the entertainment began.
The special guests were Miss Stephanie Ware on ukulele and Dee Wiley for magical moments and mischievous musings from Poet Piquante. All acts were well suited however Miss Stephanie Ware’s charm will stay with me, absolute character. We received a final kick of Pineapple Fondant with Coconut Sorbet before a raffle prize was presented and guests floated in a hazy green zen to their beds!
I was thinking to myself on my bike ride home, how many shades of green did I see tonight!?? They were mixed in the visual form of neon lights, decorations, foliage, silk clothes, food eibles and more – Green Magic!
We ask Kate lewis, Miss Asparagasm “What was the last thing that made you stop and stare?”
